Sun Moon Lake Tea (Ruby 18)

The average rating for this product is 4.5 out of 5 stars 11 Reviews
Produced from the unique Ruby #18 cultivar, developed by cross breeding a wild Formosa tea plant varietal with a Burmese/Assam strain, this outstanding black tea hails from the Sun Moon Lake region in Nantou County, Taiwan. The long, dark, wiry leaves yield a complex, hearty liquor with a velvety smooth mouth feel. The fragrant aroma reveals layers of cinnamon, raisin, fig, vanilla, and plum, which harmonize with notes of bread pudding, baked apple, and a subtle malty hint in the full-bodied cup. A lingering caramelized brown sugar note provides a complement to a crisp snap of clove in the finish. Steep longer for deeper flavor and a stronger cup. Created in celebration of Upton Tea Imports' 35th anniversary in 2024, this delightful Formosa black tea is a staff favorite.

Subtle and Nuanced With A Hint Of Smokiness
This shopper rated the product 4 out of 5 stars

Having lived in China for four years, I have tried a range of teas (both green and black) grown throughout the country. This tea is very subtle and nuanced in flavor with just the slightest hint of smokiness. This tea is perfect for the person that wants a very mild tea that does not require milk or sugar to enjoy its delicate flavor. For a black tea, it is surprisingly gentle and can steep for several minutes to develop its full flavor. Quality is really exceptional, but I prefer something with more distinctive notes.

Complex, highly flavored tea
This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

I definitely pick up the brown sugar/cinnamon notes that others have mentioned. To me, the lingering flavor, at the end of a sip, is very much like honey. This is a very good tea. I'd love to drink it every day, but at this price, it's more of a special occasion. You do get what you pay for!

One of my favorites
This shopper rated the product 5 out of 5 stars

This has a nice, complex flavor. It was a welcome change of pace from what I usually drink (Assams). I prefer this Ruby 18 to others that I have tried. This doesn’t have an excessively herbal taste and is somewhat sweet in a pleasant way.

Mild but Good
This shopper rated the product 3 out of 5 stars

It is a mild tea, but it is good. I like a little bit more of a bite to my teas, but I found if I let it steep for 5+ minutes it got better.

A very fine good quality black tea, full bodied and well balanced flavors, I could definitely see buying again.
