St. James Estate Pekoe Ceylon

The chunky, broken-leaf style of this Ceylon black tea selection yields a bright, coppery cup with classic high-grown flavor. The aroma is fragrant with hints of lemon and cedar. Those hints join a nuance of Burgundy in the rich, full-bodied liquor. A smooth finish completes a great cup of tea. Wonderful hot or iced.

Good, High-Grown, Uva Ceylon
Barry – MN – June 18, 2020

This tea has generated many different opinions, as you can see. But it is consistent with the Uva Ceylons I have had, and a good example. Woodsy and a bit citrusy, with a characteristic hint of wintergreen. Nice and fresh. Perhaps a bit astringent, but not unpleasantly so. Clearly not for everyone, but it's exactly what it's supposed to be.

Unique but astringent

This reminds me more of a Darjeeling than a Ceylon. Not a good Darjeeling, more like a Twinings Darjeeling-in-a-bag variety. It is surprisingly astringent, even at a lower temperature and a shorter steeping time. In the nose it has a Meyer lemon quality. Not particularly good with milk either. Not a smooth finish at all.

Minty bright Ceylon
Rich – CO – May 01, 2020

This to me is classic Uva, with that bright minty edge that I love. It goes well at breakfast with milk and sugar. Definitely stronger and more distinct than many other Ceylons. Time it at 3 minutes.

Not my style

I selected this tea as I like to try different varieties of Ceylon, but this tea to me doesn’t taste like Ceylon at all. Think black tea crossed with green rooibos. It’s got a sort of odd aftertaste. I am not going to even drink the remainder of it, which is pretty unusual for me. Don’t recommend it.

Bright and Fresh

This is a medium strong tea, fairly bitter, with an overtone that's difficult to describe. It's almost like the bergamot from an Earl Grey.

Superb and underrated
Alexander – GA – February 09, 2020

This is one of my favorite teas. It has a bold, raisiney quality which I’m always seeking in Ceylon teas, especially Uvas . The first time I had this tea was 20 years ago or more and had bought it from Harrods in London. It is full of distinct character, which shines through milk. Optimal brewing time would be 2 to 3 minutes.

I have traveled to Sri Lanka, so it has a special place in my heart. I'll have to say this tea is a little bitter for my taste. It is not boring, so if you like it real and with a punch this should do it for you.
