A light blue glaze was finely drizzled over an underglaze of midnight blue to create a cool color harmony on this ceramic Matcha bowl (chawan). Used in the preparation of Cha-no-yu, this traditional bowl has a capacity of approximately 8 ounces and measures 4 ¼ inches wide at the rim by 2 ½ inches deep.

With a tea growing history of over 900 years, the Bulang Mountain range of Yunnan province includes some of the most prized Pu-Erh production regions. Produced at a small family tea garden in Shizuoka, Japan, this unique black tea is smoked for 6-8 hours using wood chips from a Japanese cherry wood whisky barrel. Japanese researchers created GABA tea serendipitously in the 1980's. Wanting effective methods to preserve tea, not fully oxidized leaf was exposed to nitrogen. The glutamic acid inherent in tea was transformed to Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid, or GABA for short.
