Chinese congous are technically called "red teas" by China tea experts. A little milk or sugar enhances the smooth, full-bodied flavor of Chinese black teas, and quite often, a basic congou will be served at Chinese restaurants.

   Production of this handcrafted tea requires a rare level of skill. The carefully plucked leaves are bold and have an interesting crepe-like appearance. The cup is very complex, with layers of floral and cocoa notes. The liquor is surprisingly smooth and quite flavorful. Due to the scarcity and price of this tea, we offer only sample sizes of 10 grams and a mini sample of 2 grams (for 1 cup)

   This selection comes from the mist-covered Wuyi Mountains of the Fujian province, plucked from venerable tea bushes that are well over 100 years old. The dark amber-brown liquor has a mellow taste, with notes of Burgundy, apple and Muscat grape. The lingering finish is complex and sweet. Extremely limited availability.

   A black tea crafted from leaves usually reserved for Oolong production. The cup is rich tasting with a clean mouth feel. The pleasing, warm flavor has wine-like notes and hints of nutmeg and other spices.

   Produced in Fujian province, this tea has a rich fragrance. The notes of cocoa in the nose are also present in the cup. The liquor is thick with a lingering sweetness in the finish.
